Coach Darwin Valentine

Darwin Keith Valentine of Hockley, TX passed away January 17, 2023 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Darwin was born December 26, 1951 in Jackson, Ohio to the late Coit Albert Valentine and Flossie Cosby Valentine. A 1970 graduate of Jackson High School, Jackson, Ohio where he excelled in academics and sports. In 1969 and 1970 he was named MVP of the SEOAL and was all Ohioan in football. Darwin was awarded a full football scholarship to attend Central State University, Wilberforce, Ohio where he also set records. Darwin was a man who tried to accomplish everything he wanted for himself and his family. After graduation from Central State University, he became an offensive coordinator for his alma mater Central State and later followed head coach Jim McKinley to North Carolina A&T, Greensboro, NC. He continued his football coaching career at Prairie View A&M University, Prairie View, TX, Southern University, Baton Rouge, LA, Tennessee State University, Nashville, TN and Alabama State University, Montgomery, AL. He retired from coaching college and returned to Hockley, TX where he taught Health and PE at Klein Middle School. Darwin leaves behind those that will cherish his memories: His partner of 30 years, Caroline Stevenson, five children, Craig, Byron, Aaron, Darrick and Brittany Valentine all of Hockley, TX and their mother Martina Lynn Valentine, Cleveland, OH, step-daughters, Ronisha and Rainisha Stevenson and leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brothers, James Valentine, Columbus, Ohio, Kenneth Valentine, Chillicothe, Ohio and sisters Brenda Varney, Jackson, Ohio, and Rhonda Valentine, Columbus, Ohio, one uncle, Darold Cosby, Columbus, Ohio and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Norma Valentine, Melody K. Colquitt and Coit D. Valentine. Darwin wished to thank all of the men that he coached over the years for his successes and for becoming the men that they are. He wanted to thank each of them that came to visit him and the numerous players and friends that called.
