Mrs. Tempie Hayes

Tempie Lee Hayes was born on July 7, 1933, in Waller, Texas to Mr. Frank D. and Mrs. Willie B. Scott. To this union, she was born the fifth of six children. Tempie attended Prairie View Training School. After completing school, she moved to San Diego, California with her brother, Eddie A. Scott. Tempie was a faithful servant of God. She received the Holy Spirit at the age of 19. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior, at the ag e of 21, under the leadership of Elder Willie Lee Mitchell of Emmanuel Temple Church of God in Christ in Santa Barbara, California. Later in life, she moved back to Texas and met the love of her life, Mr. John Henry Hayes. After living several years in California, they made Texas their permanent home. Tempie was the mother of four children and a stepmother to six children, whom she loved dearly. Tempie Lee was a domestic entrepreneur. She maintained homes for clientele within the community. In 1978, she gained employment at Prairie View A&M University. She worked there 18 years before retiring in 1996. After retirement, she provided care for her husband until the Lord called him home. Later in life, she became a caregiver for her youngest sister, Dazerine Scott. Tempie Lee loved to sew. Her interests were sewing and making quilts. She also enjoyed reading and traveling. Tempie took great pride in serving as a witness for the Lord, meeting new people and sharing with them about God’s goodness, grace and mercy. Tempie was preceded in death by her parents, Frank D. and Willie B. Scott; brothers Eddie and Octavious; one sister, Dazerine; one daughter, Wanda Gail, one granddaughter Annie Louise and one grandson, Jesmer. She leaves to cherish her memory, two sisters: Ira B. Rush and Hattie B. Felder; three daughters: Elaine Shafer (Claude), Lounell Clark and Morell Fowlks (Aaron); four sons: Elmer Hayes, Kenneth Allen, Gilbert Pearson and John Hayes; sixteen grandchildren: Mary Hayes, Jim Elmer Hayes, Vera Hayes, Clara Dobbins (Lenny), Miles Samuel, Melvin Ware (Laquaya), Jason Hayes ( Andrea), Eichele Shafer, Deondra Reed (Cliff), Shane Shafer, Brittney Willams, Jonathan Hayes, Ramon Clark, Aaron Fowlks, Jr., Bianca Fowlks and Gabrielle Fowlks; 11 great-grandchildren: Keianna, Tatianna, Arica, Amani, Kamora, Alayah, Daejha , London, Alexander, Caiden and Braylen, and a host of relatives and friends.
